Lazada Philippines: Making some noise in the local Ecommerce

Ecommerce in the Philippines was very low a few years back. This is despite online shopping being around for the longest time. It is not simply because we don’t know that it exists. It is just that we don’t like how we expose ourselves online. Not to consider that we have a high rate of scams and frauds online. Eventually, things changed in Ecommerce just a couple of years ago. With the rise of the local Economy, it catapulted Ecommerce in a position where they can finally tap the local online users. Eventually competition in Ecommerce surfaced online. Actually, LazadaPH is one of the reasons why the online shopping competition got tighter and Ecommerce started to be a popular option in the Philippines. Prior to their arrival, the industry in Ecommerce was almost flat in growth. Online shopping was just not a popular option for most local online users in the past. They usually buy second hand items at local online classified ads by most local online users.

Typically, customers would usually go to traditional malls if they want buy anything brand new. It's actually not surprise since we all grew up going to traditional offline malls when we need something. Surprisingly, we always forget that we can save more money and time in online shopping. What are the benefits we can get if we avail online shopping? They can do online shopping wherever they find most suiting for them. Expenses can go down since local consumers won't need to spend travel expense on going to traditional offline malls.

The Philippines’ Online Shopping Mall wanted to have this issue resolved the local customers in the Philippines. The online community of the country was actually hard to tap by online malls. The online market in the country was hard to penetrate since majority of the population can't pay online due to most of them not have their own credit card. There's also a factor that most of us don't trust online transactions. Probably it is because we are aware of the existence of online frauds and scams. We are actually on the verge of Ecommerce rise in the country. Lazada is just over one year of operation but they managed to make an impact on the Ecommerce industry.

To showcase that they are legitimate as they can be, they had some TVC slots during primetime on top local channels. How were they able to come up with a solution to break the Ecommerce limitation in the Philippines? They first introduced Cash on Delivery or C.O.D. as an alternative payment method. This is a payment method that is not usually offered by online businesses. This is a risky payment method for any online business owners. Online customers can pay later after they receive their orders with this alternative payment method. What make this convenient is that customers can pay them after their orders are actually handed over to them. No need for customers to worry since they get to keep their money up until they receive their orders. The intention is to give their customers the impression that they won't be scammed.
