When I first gotten wind of the slogan the “the
Philippines online shopping mall” it gave me quite a great feeling, an
impression of coolness, catchiness and innovation. This catch phrase was though
of by lazada.com.ph/
as their advertising battle cry and true enough, the company came full on and
met obstacles along the way like the Philippines’ online shopping mall that
they claim they are.
Lazada Ph online store is one of the first
online shopping websites in the country to offer the online retail store type
of online shopping experience ala’ amazon.com which is a much sought after type
of online shopping in the country by the avid online shopping population.
For
quite some time ever since the first e-commerce website popped up in the local
online shopping milieu which I already have forgotten what the name is, the
only available e-commerce websites that can be considered under the umbrella of
online shopping are online market place type of websites. A kind of online
shopping that does it swap meet style meaning buyers and sellers gather
together to do business and sell their wares online as opposed to how online
shopping websites like Lazada Philippines is doing it where they are the sole
seller in the transaction. Some examples of online marketplace websites that I
am talking about are olx.com, ayosdito.ph, the defunct multiply.com that worked
like a shopping forward slash social media website which is really good, that
is why it was just a little bit surprising when they decided to throw the towel
in on it and fold it down and of course sulit.com wouldn’t be left out of the
fray which is a company that has become a household name for buy sell with
their currently active advertising and marketing slogan “ibenta mo na”. These
online marketplace websites easily became a staple because Filipinos love to
buy second hand, it is in our nature, it is not that we are not into brand new
stuff but it is because of the obviously cheaper price that second hand items
bring and the simplicity of dealing on the person to person basis. Plus there
are not that many online shopping websites to choose from previously.
Anyway, I
was so hyped and psyched when I first heard that an international online
business builder called Rocket-Internet is coming over to the country to put up
an online retail store called Lazada Philippines that is set to be the
country’s first online shopping mall. I have been rearing to buy stuff online
and do it amazon.com style, however I was reluctant because most of the online
shopping websites before are all located internationally which means that if I
decide to order something I am going to have to contend with the anxiety of
putting my credit card information online and provide it to a company that is located
halfway across the planet as well as put up with any possible delays in
delivery and the prospect of getting the incorrect item or worse an item that
is lost in the mail. Lazada is a breath of fresh air because it is located
locally that means fast delivery and easier communication. The company is
definitely online shopping’s big buzz this year.
