Lazada Review: The Online Shopping Company of The Future

It might be too early to say but I will say it anyway, the Philippines online shopping mall Lazada is the company of the future. I have all my reasons to spread that information around. I am not trying to kick start a rumor mill or something but rather I am simply speaking based on the facts and realities that have witnessed so far about the company. With only less than two years in operations, the company has already achieved a lot of feats that are normally achieved by companies that have seen a lot of years down the stretch. Lazada has sold more than a million products and it is rare for companies to achieve this kind of sales performance on the first year of their operations. It is not something that ordinary, run-of-the-mill businesses normally pull off.

Lazada is no ordinary business however. It is an online venture created by the industry’s best online venture builder. That online venture builder that we are talking about is none other than Berlin, Germany’s Rocket-Internet. This online venture builder is headquartered in what is touted as Europe’s counterpart of Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley is of course the United States’ information technology hotspot and mecca where most of the world’s top technological companies are located. Berlin holds the same title and it is a city where most of Europe’s top internet companies operate out of. Rocket-Internet began it’s very illustrious history in as early as 1999. It was created by the Samwer brothers, a team of siblings that are very legendary in the online business field that has achieved a lot of equally legendary business feats early on during their career. Just to give an example on how great the brothers’ achievements were during the early days of their amazing career, we are going to drop the company name city deal; if you are familiar with Groupon then you might have probably heard of City deal as well. It is one of those deal of the day websites. City deal was very popular in Germany during the early days of its inception and the Samwer brothers found a way to cash in huge profits on this wonderful online business creation. Citydeals’ success captured the attention of the industry heads in Groupon and they decided to make an offer of a whopping $126 million which is a very huge amount of money allowing the Samwer Brothers to profit a hefty amount of $90 million.

One of the earliest companies that they have exited successfully was the online venture Zalando which is similar in concept to eBay, an online market place type of website. This was back in 1999 when they were just starting out on their online venture building journey. To make the long story really short and sweet, the success and great concept of Zalando captured the attention of eBay as well and offered to purchase Zalando at $50 million again a great profit turn in for the company considering that Zalando was just within 100 days of operations. With this kind of background that the creator of Lazada has, it is a very probable assumption that the company is going to be the company of the future just like its predecessors.
