I always wondered why Ecommerce
took a long time for its arrival in the Philippines. Growing up, I was so
accustomed to traditional shopping with family. Later on, as I grew up I
realized that online payment was usually a struggle for most people. It usually
requires us to fill a lot of online forms and provide our credit card details,
which is very risky to expose online.
Some countries that are not
familiar with online shopping even get confused. It's actually possible that
first users to do online payment may struggle in properly doing it right. If
you make a mistake, your bill may be overcharged more than what you should have
paid for only.
Problem in dealing with online
business is that it takes time for processing takes longer days compared when
you deal with offline businesses. It's easy to understand. You only pay what
you paid for in real time. Other online options have risen since the arrival of
new modern digital era. Shopping is an example that we can do online. No longer
it is required to waste time and energy visiting traditional malls just to
shop. In online shopping, you'll only need an Internet access and Internet
capable device. You can access their website anytime just to know what they are
offering. It's way different here in the Philippines.
Online shopping wasn't available
if we go a few years back. No everyone possesses a credit card to do online
transactions. The Ecommerce growth was really challenging at that time. It was
challenging for Ecommerce to penetrate the local online market. It made it
easier for Ecommerce to be penetrated when websites like Lazada came in.
It made online shopping relevant when they arrived. With Cash on Delivery or
C.O.D., not owning your own credit card will still allow you to shop online
with them. Customers who select Cash on Delivery or C.O.D. can just leave their
shipment address and their name.
The Philippines’ Online Shopping
Mall will only require their customers to pay once their orders are delivered
at their doorstep. Easy, fast, convenient and worry-free online shopping. It is
the first time that Cash on Delivery or C.O.D. was offered online in the
Philippines. With option of Cash on Delivery, it marked the first time it was
introduced in our country the evidently helped the growth of Ecommerce. This
opened our eyes on how online shopping can help us online.
After they arrived in the
country, other local online malls were established one by one. As there
shopping options showed up, it now gives us more alternatives in shopping. Not
only do they give us flexibility in shopping options. But they also offered
different kind of payment methods that will suit each of the customer’s
capability to pay. Just a couple of months ago, they opened credit card
installments on their shop. Right now, it’s only exclusive for BDO account
holders. But eventually, I’m pretty sure they will open it up to other banks as
well.
