Online shopping
wasn’t a well-known option for most Filipinos in the past. Online classified
ads were the closest to a present local online mall. But then again, it’s more
on a buy and sell website rather than an online mall website which directly
sells to the customers. Last year was when Lazada Online Store was
launched in the Philippines. Internet Giant Rocket Internet that is owned by
the Samwer brothers powers it. They don't exist in the country only but also on
other key countries in South East Asia. Since our Ecommerce industry competition
is low and has a high potential due to economy rise, it made them decide to
launch their own venture in the region.
Rocket Internet
is actually well known globally before they even launched Lazada in South East
Asia. It's actually not new for other countries to conduct online shopping.
Prior to their arrival, Ecommerce was slowly growing in the Philippines for the
past couple of years. One reason why it is taking so long is that online users
are not yet too prepared for online transactions.
Only a few have
acceptable Internet speed. The ratio of credit card owners in the country is
way low. Payments via credit cards are the most acceptable payment method by
online stores. Luckily they introduced Cash on Delivery or C.O.D. that allows
anyone to become customers For me, it changed how people perceive online
shopping in the Philippines Today, more local offline business are now
transitioning to online ever since they arrived in the country. Ever since they
showed how online business could be successful in the country, local offline
businessmen followed their success.
A few years ago,
Ecommerce was really struggling due to a lot of issues as compared to other
countries. The Philippines’ Online Shopping Mall had almost no one who are
capable to pay online are willing to shop online. For the few who can conduct
online shopping, not all of them are open to that idea. These issues made the
growth of Ecommerce slow. Almost local classifieds were the ones that were
entertained by the local online community in the local online industry; online
shopping malls really never took off prior to Lazada's arrival.
No one was
willing to invest in Ecommerce at that time since it wasn't regarded at all
during that time. For them to conquer the Ecommerce drought, they executed
full-scale online marketing campaigns. As a result, you can see them everywhere
online. This helped their online brand to be recognized quickly than other
usual brands that get to that point only after 3-5 years.
Their overall
online shopping service made them and turned them into a standout among their
competition. On top of their Cash on Delivery or C.O.D. payment method, they
also offer free delivery to their customers. Customers will also get standard
manufacturer's warranty that we usually get from traditional malls. On top of
these, they recently opened PayPal payment method and even offered credit card instalment
for BDO account credit card holders.
