When it comes to
shopping online, people have a lot of doubts as to the reliability of the
service. This is understandable since it is very hard to trust a shop that you
never get to see with your eyes and get an item that you never had the chance
to hold in your hands. However, online shopping is slowly becoming the norm
nowadays and I think this fear has more to do with the shift in shopping
paradigms more than anything else. I experienced this first hand when I was
looking to purchase a smartphone a few weeks back at Lazada.
Just for the
record, this isn't my first time buying an item online; I've bought quite a lot
of small items here and there from other online retailers so I can confidently say
that I'm not a total newbie when it comes to purchasing online. However, I
haven't really bought anything that can be considered very expensive. I have
experienced some delays and problems with my other purchases from other
retailers so I was a bit apprehensive in buying something like a smartphone
online. Unfortunately, I neither had the time nor patience to actually go out
and look for one at the malls so I decided to take the plunge and order one
online.
Since I was
paying big money for this purchase, I just wouldn't trust any run-of-the-mill
online retailer; I was looking for something more secure and trustworthy with a
good track record. After deciding to buy a Note II, I looked up the online
stores in the Philippines that carry the device. I decided to go with the
company that looked the most trustworthy and professional and ended up at Lazada Online Store.
Just looking at
their website, I can already tell that this is different compared to other
online retailers. For starters, they have their own website and not just a
Facebook or Multiply page. They will also allow you to create an account
wherein your purchases will be stored to your cart. Just like Amazon or e-bay,
I thought. Upon closer inspection, I found out that the website is actually run
by a foreign company called Rocket Internet and already has an international
presence. If they are good enough to expand to other countries, they must be
doing something good right?
I held my breath
and closed my eyes as I clicked that confirmation button for my order and
prayed that I didn't make any mistakes. I guess all of that sleuthing and
detective work paid off as the delivery from the Philippines' Online Shopping
Mall came without a hitch. It was actually more than I expected, not only did
they deliver at a timely manner, but it was actually free! Would you look at
that, they actually have free delivery available to a lot of different
addresses in the country.
So how was my
purchase, you may ask? Truth be told, it was the best purchase I ever had,
online or otherwise! Moreover, I wasn't really scared if the item had faults
since it can be returned within 7 days. Of course, I never really needed to use
that option; weeks after my purchase and I am currently typing this on my Note
II that I bought from Lazada Philippines.
To test out if an online store is a reliable/trustworthy one, what I do is I order a cheap item first. If all's well, I go ahead and purchase the things I wanted in the first place.
