Lazada PH: My take on website priorities in online shopping malls


I consider myself as a digital and tech geek. Growing up my standards and demand in technology have also increased along with the time. Back then, I used to go online to read and research for information that I mostly used for my paper work in college. I remember when I was still in grade school, libraries and encyclopedia where the best source of information we can get our hands. The research was actually tedious to be honest. Young generation should be very thankful that they were born in the digital modern era unlike our times. For our generation though, it’s still a good feeling that we actually experienced the transcending of the digital evolution. We still managed to enjoy the “old school” way of doing a research. A years progress and the website usage become more and more sophisticated, Internet has came out way beyond its initial purpose. It has now become a part of our lifestyle due to the fact that we use them in our daily ventures.

Internet is now being used for the purpose of communication, work, entertainment and even as a business or market place. In the Philippines for example, online shopping had just started to rise. The local online community is starting to accept it, as an alternative option for their shopping needs. However, one thing I noticed with the online stores that are being launched in the local online scene is that some of them are presented in way that is very hard to use. Some takes time to load while others made their layout very cluttered that it gives the customers a hard time. A good example of a well balanced website for me is Lazada Online Mall. They are actually a venture launched across South East Asia and exist in other countries as well. They are powered by Rocket Internet, which also launched the same venture in countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. As of today, they are one of the website considered by many as the key players in the online stores section of the Ecommerce industry.

 For such as short span, they managed to introduce their brand the fastest and at the highest level. But this does not make them who they are just on how their aggressive online marketing did for them. They also managed to have a very user friendly website. An important factor that some of the local online stores are failing to realize. Most of them concentrate on the web appeal of the website. Hence, it hurts the website performance to their online customers. What they need to understand is that it’s not about how good looking their website is. Sure, it still matters that your website is not irritating to anyone who sees it. But the priority should always focus on how a user will actually use their website and make their shopping much easier and fun. This is were I truly feel Lazada made a mark among to the local online customers.
