It is hard to trust online stores nowadays. A lot of us have
encountered or heard online scams, frauds, service mishandle, and etc. in
dealing with online businesses. Although our goal is to have convenience, it is
still inevitable to avoid mishaps in your online shopping experience. This
maybe because a business is just a scam, period! Or you happen to be one of the
unluckiest victims with a bad experience on particular online service. We are
just slowly adapting to Ecommerce when we come to think of it. Good thing that
there are some Ecommerce companies who are striving to improve on these
unexpected mishaps when dealing online. Just for fun facts, online shopping
trend only just started aggressively last year. We may have small online grey
market stores such as Kimstore and etc. But we never had an actual online mall
that we can consider almost near to what a mall can offer us. Most of the
successful small online stores are just fixed in one niche. Most of them are
focused in electronic gadgets. So how did it all begun in the Philippines? It
started when Lazada mall was launched in the country.
Back then; no one even knew what Lazada PH was
really about. The name itself doesn’t ring any bell in our local vocabulary.
Worst part is that doesn’t sound near to an online mall in our local language.
Good thing that when they arrived they were massively advertised online.
Without it, I strongly believe Lazada wouldn’t make a mark or even a scratch to
the success of other countries in Ecommerce. Besides their aggressive online
marketing, you can pretty much see them everywhere you go online. But what made
them standout are their huge selections. The number of their selections ranges
from electronics to fashion. They have it all. It’s pretty safe to say that
they are near to what a true online shopping mall should offer to customers. So
how did they further enticed local customers to buy from their website? This
counts the fact that majority of the population are unable to conventionally
pay online via credit cards or Paypal account. Only a minority of the share
does have these options to pay online. What makes it worst is that for the
minority share, not all of them are willing to use their credit cards right
away due to trust of having a secured line or simply just getting scammed
directly by an online mall.
So what Lazada
Online Store did is they offered Cash on Delivery payment method that
allowed their customers to order anything from their website online. They only
need to provide their shipment address and recipient of the order when they
proceed with the checkout assuming they selected C.O.D. as their preferred
payment method. Lazada doesn’t require to be paid upfront. They only require
their customers to pay in cash once they have delivered the order package at
their customer’s doorstep. This actually helped Lazada earn the trust of their
customers as COD protects them from getting ripped off. Instead, it gives them
advantages over Lazada, which is rare to be offered by an online store.
It's sad that scammers were very rampant before. Good thing consumers are being smarter now and non-scammers are building trust and delivering well.
