Online payments have always been a burden for some
countries. Not all of them are able to push through online transactions due to
the fact that their population are limited or not equipped to conduct online
transactions. One, they don’t have resources for conventional online payments
such as credit cards or Paypal accounts. However, there are other online
payment methods as well that are still not being practiced by majority of the
countries. They tend to restrict their customers from availing their service
without even realizing it. If it weren’t for the usual credit cards or Paypal
accounts as the only way for finalizing an online transaction in the
Philippines, the local online community would have dipped in the online
shopping industry even back then. But this was not the case; we are restricted
and limited in conducting online transactions.
Thanks to website
like Lazada,
they allowed any local online users to become customers. No matter where they
came into the website. With the thought of buying something in an online store
or not, the percentage of convincing people to buy when they arrive in the
online mall that probably came from an online ads outside their website, it’s
way higher as to if the visitor is only to pay via credit card or Paypal, which
are most of the cases. It’s also the reason why Ecommerce growth was really
slow in the country. But ever since they offered Cash on Delivery, it gave
everyone a chance to order from their store. So the existing customer share
they had when they were starting bloated enormously a year after. Most people
prefer to go to their website and order anything they want from it. No need for
them to pay in advance before they get what they bought. Customers can just
leave their shipment address and wait for it to be delivered for the next 2-5
days. I’ve even heard some customers experience the delivery on the same day,
which is pretty amazing. Customers are only required to pay in cash once they
receive their orders.
In return, this gives
customers the assurance they seek from an online store, which other online
stores wouldn’t insanely offer. The risk from a business standpoint is way
higher than the reward. But it was only the clear way to convince Filipinos to
try them out. It’s actually the credibility and service reliability, which is
being questioned most of the time by any online shopper. No one would surrender
his or her confidential credit card details right away. Especially from an
online store we don’t have an idea about their background. It’s better to avoid
the risk of getting online scammed and to just push settle to what we got
accustomed to, which is to go to traditional malls to get our shopping needs.
Basically, customers want to make sure they get their hard earned money’s
worth. Besides giving away the payment method option to be able to pay in cash,
they also offered free Cash on Delivery.
