Online
shopping is now slowly becoming part of the Filipino lifestyle and is on the
verge of reaching its prime nowadays. It's hard to believe that a lot of the
local consumers are not considering there are a lot of online shopping options
available now in the country. There are a lot of reasons on why online shopping
took a while to roll out in the country. The local community doesn’t have the
privilege to pay online since majority of the locals are not credit card
holders. Therefore, paying online didn't loo too good for the local consumers.
Moreover, we didn't have enough online stores during those times. Any
businessman won't push through on a business that has a small market share. It
also doesn't help that online shopping is known by many to have a lot of online
frauds and scams.Sadly, this was the online shopping situation in the country. It
was an industry that was really struggling.
Good
thing that this trend changed just last year. Coincidentally, it was the same
year that Lazada, The Philippines' Online
Shopping Mall came into the picture We're actually grateful that Philippines is
one of the key target country of Rocket Internet's Invasion in South East Asia.
Rocket Internet is known for cloning other successfully business models across
the globe and launching their own version on other countries where the service
is yet available. The local industry was still shaken by their presence. Rocket
Internet is of course not only the reason why Ecommerce is now an emerging
market in Asia. Personally, I think they still made the difference for the emergence
of Ecommerce. What makes them special among the other online malls is they
managed to make it happen regardless of the situation. They were actually
against the wall when they were still beginning and a lot of skeptics were all
over them.
Moreover,
most of the skeptics were just waiting for their failure to happen; little do
they know Rocket Internet came in prepared. They actually changed the online
payment scheme by offering not just the conventional payment methods but they
allowed unconventional payment methods as well. Lazada customers can directly
go to the lazada.com.ph website and have their orders delivered at their
doorstep without having to pay up front, which in conventional way of online
payment. They offered Cash on Delivery or known by many as C.O.D. On the other
hand, it is already used by other industries. But for the Ecommerce industry,
it was offered for the first time online. These were not offered before since
the risks are quite high from a business standpoint. For that kind of risk, it
was the fastest way for them to penetrate local online market. It just shows
that this online mall is dedicated in making sure the their customers will have
the best online shopping experience ever. Not only that but they also offer
free delivery availability that allows any of their customers to order what
they want and not worry about extra payment for their delivery. This is just
how their customers can rely on them.
